IN SIGHT OF THE FINISHING POST
Man dying to see an update: Duncan Bryson
Tomorrow sees the running of the grand national, where over 40 hopefulls set off
over a long and tough course, at the end of which only a few will be in with a
hope up the final straight. Likewise in this year's dreamteam there have been
ups and downs, early challengers who have fallen by the wayside and we are left
with the spectacle of two leaders, neck and neck, racing down to the wire.
Keane As Mustard and Crumbs DM have shown themselves to be in a different class
to the rest of the field and now surely it will be either Mark or Ash who will
be swilling champagne come the end of April. Oddly enough they have taken
differing routes to this point, both teams feature big scorers Thierry Henry and
Ruud Van Nistelrooy, but elsewhere there is plenty of diversion; What will
prove decisive? The goals of Eidur Gudjohnson or those of michael owen? Will
Fulham or Leeds, both so tight at the back early in the year be the downfall of
our two would be champions? Only time will tell, but hold on to the edge of
your seat for great run in!
| Ash and Mark: The glorious spectacle of the two leaders, neck and neck, racing down to the wire. |
Behind the "Big Two" is a large chasing pack, with 8 teams vying for the lesser
prizes. Ron leads the way, but is far from secure with 1FC Lundromat having a
return to form and rising to 4th. Rob's team have been the chelsea of this
season, undoubtedly in posession of some great players, but producing baffling
performances some weeks which have put paid to a sustained title challenge.
Signing Ledley "no-where near as good as John Terry" King in the mid-season
didn't help either.
At the back of this pack is my team, Torpedo Bermondsey, who have been held back
by incredible bad luck with injuries at a vital stage of the season. WIth
Terry, Berger, Keown, Ljundberg and Schwarzer all returning to first team action
however, I don't think you'll have seen the last of me yet.
Craig's Dad is sitting in the fair play position, showing that the calm head
brought by age and experience can bring its own bounty, good luck for the rest
of the season I say!.
The bottom of the table is a mirror image of the top, with two teams cast adrift
in a class of their own. Oh Sheffield, having looked doomed for most of the
season are just ahead of the woeful Lone Ranger mob. These two teams have
scored less than half of the leaders' score and their finale is likely to
resemble a slow bicycle race rather than the grand national, in fact if they
were horses they might well be shot.
