UNDER STARTER'S ORDERS

Welcome back my friends to the game that never ends, only this year you've got no excuses for failing because you've been given an extra £5 million to spend on your squad!

I kid you not. This season sees a price cap of £40 million - but spend it wisely because talent doesn't come cheap. Gone are the days when you can pick Marcus Stewart up for peanuts. This year he'll cost you a cool £5 million while Sami Hyppia, last year's top scorer could prove a bargain at just £6 million.

Sadly Lee Sharpe is unavailable for selection this year...
Once again you can only pick two players from each Premiership team and you cannot exceed your £40 million budget. Other than that, you can pick who you like. The formations available are the same as last year - either a simple 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 line-up. Those that are not familiar with these technical terms can email me and ask for an explanation if they wish, but if you're stuck now you might as well forget it!

The scoring is the same as last year - but if you can't remember or you haven't played before you'll find full details here. All points scored in the League, Worthington Cup, FA Cup and any European competitions all count towards your final score, but any preliminary rounds - such as goals scored in the Intertoto Cup - are worthless.

Prize money will be established once I know how many teams are competing in this year's competition but I'm hoping the total prize fund will be around the £200 mark (Big money, as Max Bygraves used to say). The entry fee is £10 per team and all teams must be entered before 5pm on Friday, 17th August.

And that's about it for now. Keep an eye on the transfer market as there may be some players missing from the lists at the mo that may come into contention nearer to kick off. You can see a full list of available players for each position in the navigation bar on the left.

Bye for now. And may the best team - i.e. mine - win.
