BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
With just two months to go, the movers and shakers behind Duck Utd are, er, beginning to move and shake.
Having suffered three disappointing weeks on the spin, St. Reatham FC have put their recent dismal form behind them to notch up the highest score of the week. A score of sixty was enough to leapfrog Supersonic FC and Cup Finalists the Luke Perry All-Stars and move into 2nd place, just seventy-five points behind Karen in the Championship race. With Wanchope out and Sheringham no longer an automatic start for Manchester United, the chasing pack have seized their opportunity to close the gap. There's a long way to go, but Duck Utd must be wondering whether or not they have done enough to secure the title.
Elsewhere, the scramble for the remaining money spots is beginning to intensify. Chasing Supersonic FC hard for fourth spot are Bill S Preston North End and Freakin' Last, both of whom broke the 1000-point barrier this week, and Sunday Stroolers while Gazton Villa are making a late run in 8th place. Reigning champions, The Porcelain Horse, look out of it while Crumbs DM seem to have peaked to soon once again. Maybe next year lads…no sniggering at the back the rest of you…
| Neil only began to feel pain when he realised he had to try and be funny again when writing this week's caption | Not so clear-cut is the race for the Fair Play trophy for finishing 15th. At the moment, no one seems to want it, least of all Shamrock United. Having held off all challengers last week, Liz decided to follow the example set by Spakatak Toxteth the week before and notch up a worthy score to jump three places to 12th, leaving A Taste of the Raj to occupy the coveted 15th slot. However, he has a fight on his hands, because Crazyhorse FC are just four points behind 16th place and once the figures are "seasonally adjusted", who knows where I'll be…top, probably.
Athletico Salford, Spakatak Toxteth and 1897 - The Golden Year are all still in with a shout but Billy's Boots' League form seems to have suffered in recent weeks. Rumour has it that the management have banned all talk of the Cup Final until their League position improves.
The Villa Rejects look comfortable in last place while the Soft Centres score was unaffected by having the wrong player in their line-up for the past two months. In fact, it made no difference at all since the player in question was himself transferred to Tranmere Rovers shortly after Ron bought him…
That's it for now. Short and sweet and very painful to write - not because I've hurt my finger but because I'm sitting on my tender hamstring, which I pulled on Sunday trying to prevent a certain goal…
Here's the treatment table…
