THERE'S ONLY ONE TONY COTTEE
With everyone's transfers kicking in next week, perhaps we should take time out to examine the crappiest buys of the year before getting on to more important matters, like how many points Karen has this week.
Although Spakatak Toxteth put in a brave effort with Nicky Summerbee, I'm afraid the award for Crappiest Buy of the Year should go to Dave Nicholson and his foolish decision to let Tony Cottee lead the Birmingham Shitty front line. Within days of selecting this bargain buy; the diminutive forward left the Premiership to seek fame and fortune in the Nationwide League with Norwich City before going off to manage Barnet. Congratulations Dave, I hope his youthful replacement, Les Ferdinand, doesn't let you down with the trust you've placed in him.

Back to more important matters. Still no change at the top, I'm afraid, with Duck Utd still out in front by eighty-odd points. The Top Five, in fact, remain unchanged, but creeping up on the outside is Supersonic FC, who this week move up to 6th place with a score of 43. Did Nic make the right moves in the Transfer market to claim a top four placing? Only time will tell but there were a number of baffling transfers that could alter the make-up of the table quite considerably come May.
Highest scorer of the week was Rushden Anne Diamonds with 45 closely followed by A Taste of the Raj, who notched up 44. Both moved up the table, with Nity's team re-entering the Top Ten. Patrick Duffy Thistle also scored well with 35, while the Soft Centres almost moved off the bottom for the first time in eons, coming within two points of the Villa Rejects.
And what of my team? Well, it's been a while since I indulged in a spot of self-promotion/excuse making so here goes. Speaking in riddles a la Alan Smith of Crystal Palace, let me just say that if all my players had scored a hat-trick at some point during the season, I would be top by now. It's amazing what a difference thirty-three goals make. This week, Crazyhorse FC scored 25 points, not bad considering I've only had four fit players over the Christmas period. Anyway, I've rung in the changes and hope to move up the table before too long.
That's it for this week. Results of the First Round of the FA Cup will be posted tomorrow hopefully as we're waiting on the result of the Bradford vs Middlesbrough tie tonight. However, some fixtures have already reached a dramatic conclusion and it looks like there's at least one upset on the cards…
Here's the table.
