DEAD HORSE BREATHES NEW LIFE AFTER BEING FLOGGED
Just when you thought the title was dead and buried and in the hands of Duck Utd, along come St Reatham FC and the Luke Perry All-Stars to put up one final, desperate stand in an attempt to breath some life into the Championship race. And by Jove, I think its worked…
Scores of eighty-two and ninety-six (the highest of the competition so far) respectfully has catapulted both teams to within inches of Karen and Duck Utd's lead - once so glorious - has been swept away with one gallant, er, sweep and now there's just nine points separating her from Mark Darnbrook with Simon Stoker still in there in third. It remains to be seen whether or not Karen can withstand this vicious onslaught on two fronts but if she slips up again, St. Reatham and Luke Perry are now within a position to not only pounce, but to also tear her limb from limb.
| While Billy's Boots celebrate, Luke Perry injects some life into the title race | If that wasn't excitement enough, at the bottom the Villa Rejects have decided they've had enough of being the class whipping boys and have made a final push towards 25th place. A very good score of 63 has closed the gap on the Soft Centres and opened up the race for the Wooden Spoon. With just six weeks remaining to the end of the season, it looks like both this and the race for the title are going down to the wire - and after last season's stalemate, we could do with some excitement!
And if that wasn't all, the biggest news of the week is that Crazyhorse FC have overtaken Crumbs DM in the race for bragging rights between Neil and Ash down the pub on a Friday night. What's more, Gary's bet with Clare Devaney - no relation - looks safe after Marcus Stewart's hattrick helped him rack up a score of 65 pts to move away from Spakatak Toxteth and into the safety comfort zone of 8th place. Elsewhere, the fight for fourth place continues, with Supersonic FC holding off challenges from Freakin' Last and Bill S. Preston to remain in the last money spot.
In one of those ironic quirks of fate that only seems to happen in football, the only money placing that actually seems decided is the only one that had any activity over the past few months. Having undergone a change in ownership on several occasions, the Fair Play Award for finishing 15th looks like it is going to Athletico Salford. As long as Craig's side doesn't do anything too outlandish in the coming weeks, the tenner is as good as in his pocket. Having said that, Karen had probably already earmarked her winnings before the events of this week overtook her…
That's it for this week. Congratulations once again to Billy's Boots for winning the Dreamteam FA Cup. At least they're certain of playing in Europe next year, unlike some!
Here's that exciting, action-packed table in full…
